World Photography Day is August 19

Today is World Photography Day! It’s celebrated every year on August 19th because the French government bought the original Daguerreotype patent and released it as a gift to the world on August 19, 1839.

World Photography Day

According to the World Photography Day website, World Photography Day encourages photographers to share their work and celebrate the creative aspects of photography. It's an opportunity to showcase the beauty and diversity of the world through images.

It’s fun to share your favorite photos

Just as the French government shared the invention of photography with the world, we can share our favorite photos with each other. Every day is a great day to share your favorite photos. Here’s one of my favorites—Stepping out into sea spray (Ballerina).

Camera.

It’s even more fun to take photos

It’s also a great day to bring out your camera and take some new favorite photos. The act of taking a fun photo serves as a reminder of the power of photography to inspire, inform, and connect people across the globe.

Check out our great photos online, or stop by the gallery. I love to talk about photography!
