Breaking into Light Debuts at Shadow & Light Exhibition
My new print Breaking into Light makes its debut at the Shadow & Light Exhibition at the Custom House in Key West on Wed Dec 3.
A New Print Makes its Debut
Breaking into Light depicts a turquoise wave breaking over dark rocks along the shoreline at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park in Key West. The long exposure captured the arc of the sea spray and the light reflected through the breaking water. I find the image both dynamic and restful in the way the light and shadow intermingle.
Shadow & Light: Island Contrast
The Key West Museum of Art & History invites the public to the opening of its newest juried exhibition, Shadow & Light: Island Contrast, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, with a free reception from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Held in the museum’s Bryan Gallery, the event is open to all and will celebrate the creativity of more than 50 Florida Keys artists featured in the exhibition. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists, explore the artwork, and enjoy light refreshments in one of Key West’s most iconic historic spaces.
Shadow & Light explores the expressive potential of natural light and its interaction with form, space, and material. Participating artists were encouraged to venture outdoors and observe how light transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary—casting shadows, revealing textures, and evoking emotion. The result is a deeply introspective and visually engaging collection of work that celebrates both the technical and poetic elements of art. This compelling show invites all who attend to pause, observe, and rediscover the world around them through the shifting interplay of light and shadow.
