Rainbow Fences and Pins
Just in time for Pride Month, we have rainbow fences and pins in the gallery, courtesy of the Fence Fairy.
Key West’s rainbow fences began as a response to Florida officials paving over the city's iconic rainbow crosswalks. The community painted neighborhood picket fences in vibrant rainbow colors to reclaim LGBTQ+ visibility. To comply with strict neighborhood rules that mandate white picket fences, Anne creates mini rainbow fences to hang as artwork.
You can pick up a rainbow fence for a suggested donation of $20 and a rainbow pin for $5. Your generous donations go to support local LGBTQ+ organizations like the Key West Business Guild and Queer Keys.
Be sure to listen to this interview with Anne: From Activism to Art: How Rainbow Fences Are Uniting Communities in Key West.
“Your voice matters, your vote matters, your spirit is important, and I value you. We are not alone—there is hope out there, and action is what replenishes us.” - Anne Brodsky
