Revisiting a Popular Photo
Revisiting older photos sometimes results in a new interpretation.
Stillness among the waves
Something about this time of year stimulates reflection, and so I have been looking back on some of my older photos. One of my photos, Stillness among the waves, depicts a graceful blue heron standing quietly among the waves breaking on the beach at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. The blue heron is in silhouette and the whole photo has a blue tinge because I was shooting into the sun. I used a square crop to focus on the heron.
Stillness among the waves II
I took this photo within a second of the first one. You can see that the angle of the heron’s head is slightly different. I decided to bring out the vibrance of the blue tinge and enhance the texture of the water and breaking wave. That led me to give the wave a larger role by using a 16:10 crop. It’s definitely a different feel, and may be appealing depending on the space in which the photo is intended to hang.
